How it works

Three layers and a removable neck plate, designed around the animal’s anatomy.

Removable neck plate

A semi-rigid plate at the neck limits head turning. It can be removed while the animal is supervised.

Compression layer

Adjustable fit over the wound that reduces seroma formation. No bandages.

Antimicrobial

Fabric treated with SiL2U®+SiLcare A, which reduces the growth of microorganisms.

Water-repellent outer layer

Protects against moisture and leaks. Machine washable and reusable.

How to put it on

  1. Start with the neck.
  2. Continue with the middle section.
  3. Close the rear section, adjusting the Velcro so that it compresses the wound well.
  4. Secure the whole suit with the straps.
  5. When the pet cannot be supervised, insert the plastic plate into the neck pocket so that it acts as a collar.

Two models, six sizes

Where can I get it?

MIMAR® Suit Recovery is available through your veterinary clinic, because it is the vet who assesses whether it is suitable after surgery and chooses the size. Ask your vet for it. If their clinic doesn’t work with us yet, they can contact us and order just the size they need, with no minimum.

How much does it cost?

The price is set by each veterinary clinic. Your vet will tell you the price for your pet’s size. Remember that it is reusable: it can be used again on other occasions.

What size does my pet need?

It is chosen by the animal’s weight (see the size chart). If your pet is between two sizes, the clinic can try both and keep the one that fits best: snug to the body, without being tight.

Does it replace the Elizabethan collar?

Yes, it is an alternative to the Elizabethan collar. A semi-rigid plate at the neck limits head turning so that your pet cannot reach the wound. This means it can eat, drink, sleep and move around without the cone.

How long does it need to be worn?

As long as your vet advises, depending on the surgery and how the wound heals.

Can my pet eat, drink and go for walks in the suit?

Yes, both with and without the rigid neck plate. It can also go for walks outside, run and play outdoors.

Isn’t it very uncomfortable to wear the rigid neck plate all the time?

When your pet is supervised, you can take the rigid plate out of the neck pocket, as it is removable.

Can my pet go to the toilet with the suit on?

Yes, the suit does not interfere with any bodily function.

For male dogs, is there an opening for the penis?

No. The opening is cut by the vet or the owner, as the fabric does not fray.

Can it be used on cats?

Yes. Cats are very special animals and, when the suit is first put on, they may freeze at first. We recommend getting them used to it gradually, putting it on and taking it off until they get used to it. Except in special situations, most of the time cats will not need the rigid neck plate: instead, the extra Velcro strips included in the bag are fastened from the neck to the back, which will make our pet much more comfortable.

My dog has just given birth. Can she nurse with the suit on?

Yes. Once the suit is on, openings are made for the teats. The suit withstands the puppies’ teeth and claws, and they can suckle comfortably.

Is the full suit needed for cervical disc herniation?

No. For these cases there is the short suit, without the rear section, designed for cervical disc herniation, neck and chest wounds and protecting oesophagostomy tubes.

If my dog licks its paws, will the suit stop it?

No, the suit does not cover the legs.

How do I wash it? Is it reusable?

Machine wash at 30 °C maximum, with the Velcro fastened. Do not use bleach or a tumble dryer: leave it to air dry, and do not dry-clean it. It is reusable: it can be used again on other occasions if needed. The neck is made of softshell fabric (100% polyester) and the body of Lycra (70% polyester and 30% elastane).
